Jack Movie Review: Sidhu Jonnalagadda, the hero who gained an unwavering craze among the Telugu youth with the films ‘DJ Tillu’ and ‘Tillu Square’, has recently come to the audience with the spy action comedy film ‘Jack’. Directed by ‘Bommarillu’ fame Bhaskar and produced by B.V.S.N. Prasad, the film was released in theaters on April 10, 2025. Vaishnavi Chaitanya played the heroine in this film, and actors like Prakash Raj, Naresh, Brahmaji, and Subbaraju appeared in key roles. Did Sidhu, who received blockbuster successes with the ‘Tillu’ series, score a hat-trick with ‘Jack’? How is this film? Let’s find out in this review.

Plot

The story of ‘Jack’ revolves around Pablo Neruda alias Jack (Sidhu Jonnalagadda). Jack is a smart, hyper-active young man who dreams of becoming a RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) agent. Since childhood, he has tried his hand at 24 sports and arts, but has failed to achieve any of them. However, with his self-proclaimed spy skills, he gathers information about an upcoming terrorist attack in Hyderabad and tries to stop it. In the process, he meets RAW agent Manoj (Prakash Raj).

On the other hand, Jack's father (Naresh) hires a detective agency to find out what his son is up to. Aashna (Vaishnavi Chaitanya), who works in this agency, tracks Jack down and falls in love with him. Did Jack fulfill his dream? Did he stop the terrorist attack? That is the rest of the story.

Analysis

Although 'Jack' starts with an interesting premise, its execution is not up to the mark. Sidhu's comedy and some action sequences in the first half are impressive, but the second half is dull. The film's major downfalls are the portrayal of RAW agents as incompetent and the light-hearted portrayal of national security issues. The weak romantic track and lack of clarity in the screenplay further detract from the film.

Bommarillu Bhaskar, a director who had previously made his mark with hit films like 'Bommarillu' and 'Orange', failed to make his mark in this film. Sidhu's attempt to blend his youthful energy with the spy thriller genre failed. The film was supposed to be a smart spy comedy, but it ended up being a confusing screenplay.

For Sidhu Jonnalagadda fans, 'Jack' offers some entertainment with his signature comedy timing and one-liners. There are some funny scenes and action sequences in the first half that are impressive. However, the film may disappoint the audience who are expecting a strong story and a deep screenplay. Sidhu's energy and some of the dialogues made the film somewhat appealing.

Actors' Performance

Sidhu Jonnalagadda continued his trademark 'Tillu' style in this film. His comedy timing, dialogue delivery, energetic screen presence were the main attractions of the film. Although his one-liners and humor in some scenes made the audience laugh, critics noted that his role lacked the intensity and depth required for the spy thriller genre.

Vaishnavi Chaitanya, an actress known for the film 'Baby', was seen in the role of Aashna in the film. Although she looked pretty, her role failed to make an impact due to the weak writing. The romantic chemistry between Sidhu-Vaishnavi also didn't click much.

Although Prakash Raj impressed with his natural acting, his role didn't feel well written. Actors like Naresh, Brahmaji, and Subbaraju were impressive in their limited roles, but the lack of scope for them was a minus for the film.

Technical aspects

The technical aspects of the film were also not up to the mark. The music by Achu Rajamani, Suresh Bobbili, and Sam C.S. was average. The songs were not very memorable, and the background score made an impact only in a few scenes. Vijay K. Chakravarthy's cinematography was mediocre, and the use of green screen and poor visual effects were clearly visible in the scenes shot in Nepal. Naveen Nooli's editing was also poor, and unnecessary scenes seemed to drag in the second half of the film.

Conclusion

Although 'Jack' started off promisingly as a spy action comedy, it failed to impress as expected due to a weak screenplay, outdated narrative, and technical glitches. Although Sidhu Jonnalagadda carries the film to some extent with his performance, director Bhaskar fails to capitalize on this opportunity. Sidhu fans may watch this film for his comedy, but it will disappoint those looking for a comprehensive cinematic experience. Let's hope Sidhu shows his mettle in upcoming films like 'Telusu Katha' and 'Badass'.
