The Telugu film industry keeps on coming up with new stories to impress the audience. One such attempt is the movie ‘Artiste’. Directed by Ratan Rishi, this movie starring Santosh Kalvacherla and Krisheka Patel in the lead roles was released as a crime thriller. However, did this movie meet the expectations of the audience? Let’s see in the review.
Story:
The story of ‘Artiste’ revolves around a murder. The story is told from the perspective of a criminal who commits this murder perfectly like an artist. Vicky (Santosh Kalvacherla) lives a happy life with his girlfriend Janu (Krisheka Patel) and sister Bujji alias Swathi (Swathi Madhuri). However, their lives take an unexpected turn, with a psycho Ravi (Kalakeya Prabhakar), police Prakash (Satyam Rajesh), Sudarshan (Sudarshan), Jaanu's parents Surekha (Sonia Akula), Ravindra (Vinay Varma) and others involved. Although the film 'Artiste' started as an interesting crime thriller, it could not gain momentum in the middle of the story. Although director Ratan Rishi started the story interestingly, the story lost momentum with the hero-heroine love story and sisterly sentiment. The first half was filled with too many emotions and sentiments, pushing the thriller elements back. In the second half too, the audience's patience was tested due to the lack of novelty in the story, screenplay and direction.
Acting:
Santosh Kalvacherla gave a mediocre performance in his role, but the audience was bored by the sameness of his expressions in some scenes. Although Krisheka Patel played her role neatly, her role lacked much scope. Supporting actors like Satyam Rajesh, Tanikella Bharani, and Vinay Varma did justice to their roles, but their roles in the story were limited and they could not impress much. Kalakeya Prabhakar looked scary in the role of Psycho Ravi, but due to the lack of writing, the role could not make its full impact.
Technical aspects:
The music provided by Suresh Bobbili did not add much strength to the film. Although the background music was useful in some scenes, the songs were not very memorable. The cinematography was ordinary, but in some scenes there was an attempt to reflect the spirit of Hollywood films. The film would have been crisper if more attention had been paid to the editing.
Direction:
Ratan Rishi started the film with a new concept, but failed to drive the story interestingly. The focus on emotional drama instead of thriller in the first half, and the dullness of the story with a predictable plot in the second half became a big minus for the film. Some scenes were too much, and the illogical scenes disappointed the audience.
Plus points:
Attempt with a new concept
Supporting actors' performance
Hollywood inspiration in some scenes
Minus points:
Bland story
Predictable plot
Lack of thriller elements
Overwhelming emotional scenes
Overall:
The film 'Artiste' started as an interesting crime thriller and remained a misguided film. Although director Ratan Rishi introduced a new concept, the film failed to impress the audience due to the shortcomings in the story and screenplay. This movie may disappoint those who like crime thrillers. CineJosh gave the movie a rating of 1.5 on the day of its release, which indicates the impact of the movie.
Conclusion: ‘Artiste’ is a film that starts with a good idea but ends up incomplete. This movie may disappoint those who expect crime thrillers.
Recommendation: Those who want to support new actors and new efforts can give it a try, but it is better not to have high expectations.
