Prime Video has officially renewed the TV series based on Tolkien's novels. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been officially renewed for a third season by Amazon Prime Video. The renewal doesn't come as a complete surprise, considering that the second season ended with pivotal events that hinted at the arrival of a new season.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is getting a season 3

The second part of the prequel to the Lord of the Rings saga was released on Prime Video on August 29 and concluded on October 3, with a breathtaking finale that saw Sauron (played by Charlie Vickers) rally an army of orcs and defeat the elves in their fortress of Eregion. Despite this defeat, the elves and dwarves are ready to unite against the dark lord, also thanks to their powerful rings, to face him in season three.

Season 3 is currently in pre-production at Shepperton Studios, located just outside of London, with filming expected to begin this spring. Charlotte Brändström, who co-executive produced and directed multiple episodes of the first two seasons, will return as an executive producer and director for the new season. Additionally, Sanaa Hamri will reprise her role as director, while longtime director Stefan Schwartz will join the team.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is produced by creators and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They are joined by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and executive producer and director Charlotte Brändström. Matthew Penry-Davey is the producer, with Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee serving as co-producers.
