Pyar Ka Professor

When I sat down to watch the Hindi web series Pyaar Ka Professor, which was released on Amazon MX Player on February 14, 2025, I was expecting a new romantic comedy experience. Directed by Akshay Chaubey, the series stars Pranav Sachdev, Sandeepa Dhar, Mahesh Balraj, and Alisha Chopra in the lead roles. The story revolves around a dating coach, with six episodes and a runtime of about 30 minutes. Set against the backdrop of Delhi, did this series make me laugh, touch my heart, or feel different? Let me tell you about my feelings, highlights, and some shortcomings in this review!

What is the story?

Vaibhav Chak (Pranav Sachdev) is a guy who works as an image consultant in Delhi by day and gives dating tips to single guys by night as “Pyaar Ka Professor.” He feels he can impress anyone with his “5-step love formula”. However, a politician Pankaj Hooda (Mahesh Balraj) hires Vaibhav to repair his image after a viral video. In this project, Vaibhav meets Pankaj’s wife Mallika (Sandeepa Dhar). When his tricks don’t work on Mallika, he falls in love for the first time and gets heartbroken. Meanwhile, his ex-girlfriend Anamika (Alisha Chopra) returns, further confusing his life. Has Vaibhav changed his manipulative lifestyle? Where did his story with Mallika go? The story ends on an open-ended note with romance, comedy, and a bit of self-reflection.

My Feelings: Hi, but a little uncomfortable

Watching the first episode, Pranav Sachdev as Vaibhav rocks the screen with his Delhi boy swag. The scene where he talks about the “peacocking” technique in his dating workshop made me laugh, “What the hell is this guy, he’s so confident!” I thought. The scenes between Vaibhav and Mallika, especially the scene where Mallika has a drink with Vaibhav’s father during the election campaign, felt cozy and relatable. The bond Vaibhav shares with his father (Babla Kochhar), and the scene where they buy a car in a flashback, touched my heart and made my eyes water a little.

But, as the story progressed, some scenes bothered me a little. The scenes where Vaibhav talks about techniques to “manipulate” women in his workshop, and the way he stereotypes them, made me feel uncomfortable. Even though this theme is presented as a comedy series, I felt a little misogynistic, “Will things like this work out now?” I felt. The story slowed down a bit in the second half, and it would have been better if Vaibhav’s character transformation had been given more depth. If they had shown a little more about his childhood and family background, his personality would have had a stronger reason. The open-ended climax gave scope for season 2, but I was disappointed that some questions were left unanswered.

Technically, how are the performances?

I really liked Arkodeb Mukherjee’s cinematography. Delhi streets, bright colours, comic-book style visuals gave the series a fun vibe. Anadi Nagar's music was okay, the background score lifted the comedy scenes a lot, but the songs were not very memorable. While the editing (Sagar's attack) was smooth, the intercuts in some scenes felt a bit forced. The production quality was top notch, and the series was rich to watch.

As for the acting, Pranav Sachdev is really great as Vaibhav. His swag, comedy timing, and subtle turns in emotional scenes made me think, "This guy has a bright future!" Sandeepa Dhar looked classy and strong as Mallika, her screen presence a plus for the series. Mahesh Balraj did well as Pankaj, but his character felt a bit similar. Babla Kochhar touched the heart with his warm performance as Vaibhav's father, and their scenes were the highlight of the series. Alisha Chopra and Hanif Memon are good in supporting roles, but it would be better if their roles were given a little more scope.

Open ending—Increased curiosity for season 2.

Dislikes:

Dating Techniques—The approach to manipulating women felt uncomfortable and a bit misogynistic.

Vaibhav's backstory—More about his childhood life needed to be shown.

Supporting roles—Anamika and other characters got less screen time.

Songs—The music didn't give much impact.

Who can watch it?

Pyaar Ka Professor is a fun watch for those who like light romantic comedies and Delhi style humor. You can watch it for the chemistry of Pranav Sachdev and Sandeepa Dhar, and for the emotional scenes between Vaibhav and Thandri. Due to the ‘A’ rating, there are some double meaning jokes and adult humor, so it will be better suited for the youth, but family audiences should watch it with a little caution. It is streaming for free on Amazon MX Player, you can try it even if you don’t have a subscription. However, it is better for those who have objections to sensitive themes to stay away.

Rating: 3/5

Pyaar Ka Professor is a fun romantic comedy, I liked it for Pranav Sachdev’s swag, Sandeepa Dhar’s class, and the Vaibhav-Thandri bond. The Delhi dialogues and comedy scenes made me laugh, and the visuals were pleasing to the eyes. But, the women's manipulation theme, slow second half, and lack of depth to Vaibhav's backstory are minuses. You can binge on Amazon MX Player to chill on the weekend, but don't expect a blockbuster experience!
