On Valentine's Day, Netflix will launch Melo Movie, the new Korean series starring Choi Woo-shik (Parasite) and Park Bo-young (Strong Girl Bong-soon), two well-known faces in the K-drama scene.
The plot of Melo Movie
The story follows Go-gyeom (played by Choi Woo-shik), a film critic who aims to see every film ever made. One day, Mu-bee Kim, a woman he had already met when he was a mere extra, comes back into his life.
Gyeom is very attracted to her and her story: Mu-bee Kim approached the film industry driven by the complicated relationship with her father, a man who loved cinema more than he loved her.
Their relationship will take unexpected turns.
At some point, Shi-joon Hong, a boy who thinks he's a genius but is still an unknown singer-songwriter, and his ex-girlfriend, Joo-a Son, who works as a screenwriter, will also enter the scene.
The cast of Melo Movie
In addition to the two protagonists, Melo Movie boasts a rather rich cast:
Lee Jun-young (Love and Leashes) as Hong Si-jun, a talented but unknown singer-songwriter.
Jeon So-nee (Parasyte: The Grey), who plays Son Ju-ah, a determined screenwriter.
Kim Jae-wook (Crazy Love) and Cha Woo-min (Night Has Come).
The screenplay is by Lee Na-eun (Our Beloved Summer), while the direction is entrusted to Oh Choong-hwan (Hotel del Luna, Castaway Diva).
The creative team aims to mix romance and themes of personal growth, offering a compelling and profound narrative.
Trailer and previews of Melo Movie
Netflix released the official trailer for Melo Movie on January 31, showing some key moments of the story. The video begins with Go-Gyeom asking himself, "Do you know when you get that gut feeling?", all while images of him and Mu-bee as young men are shown.
The moment of their first meeting, however, is interrupted by a bitter revelation: Go-Gyeom had disappeared the next morning.
The first teaser, released on January 17, already hints at a love-hate relationship in a small village in South Korea.
Their bond turns into a special friendship, but fate separates them. When Mu-bee debuts as a director, he unexpectedly finds himself facing Go-Gyeom, who in the meantime has become a successful film critic, rekindling tensions and feelings that have never subsided.
