After months of rumors and cryptic statements from the protagonist Anne Hathaway, now it's finally official: The Princess Diaries 3, the sequel to The Princess Diaries and The Talking Prince, released in theaters in 2001 and 2004 respectively, has officially entered production! Disney+ has given its green light to the project which, as Deadline reports, will be directed by Adele Lim, who has already had the opportunity to collaborate with the House of Mickey Mouse by writing the acclaimed animated film Raya and the Last Dragon, the animated feature film that was released in theaters in 2021. The third chapter will be produced by Debra Martin Chase, Naia Cucukov, and Melissa Stack.

The Princess Diaries 3 will happen, the director's first statements

As a huge fan of The Princess Diaries, I am incredibly excited to be part of the team that will bring the third installment of this beloved franchise to life. We can't wait to celebrate its core of female empowerment, joy, and mentorship with viewers around the world," said director Adele Lim in a short note, who throughout her career has written episodes of series such as One Tree Hill and Lethal Weapon as well as the film Crazy Rich Asians. The cast of The Princess Diaries 3 is currently under wraps. While the presence of Anne Hathaway seems more than expected, that of Julia Andrews, who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi of Genovia in the first two installments, is in serious doubt. The actress has not appeared on the big screen since 2010, with Michael Lembeck's fantasy comedy Toothless. We just have to wait for further updates!
