Córdova Talks About His Training for Season 2

In Episode 7 of Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the tension between the orcs and elves reaches a fever pitch, with an epic showdown involving key characters like Arondir, Elrond, and Adar. Ismael Cruz Córdova, who plays the elf Arondir, recently spoke to Variety about the physical and emotional challenges his character faces this season.

Speaking about the future, Córdova hinted that production on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power 3 is already in development

Córdova noted that his training for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was even more intense than the first, involving not only sword and bow combat but also complex acrobatics and challenging choreography. The actor confirmed that he performed most of his own action scenes, including high jumps and moves with the help of wires. Although horseback riding was part of his training, there was no specific horseback scene this season, but Córdova found this type of preparation useful for tackling the character.

One of the most memorable moments of the episode is the fight with a huge hill troll, which required a mix of practical and CGI effects. Córdova explained that, on set, the team built a partial structure of the troll to make the interaction more realistic, with a special focus on the realism of the movements.

During the battle, Arondir comes face to face with Adar, played by Sam Hazeldine. Although Arondir demonstrates great skill in combat, it is his emotionality that betrays him, allowing Adar to gain the upper hand. Córdova described this weakness as a key element in the development of his character, showing that, despite his skills, Arondir can make mistakes when overwhelmed by emotions.

Speaking of the future, Córdova hinted that production on the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is already in development, although he has not yet received an official script. However, the actor said he is excited to continue exploring the evolution of his character and to face new physical and narrative challenges in the future.
