The Bad Guys are back with a new special: Haunted Heist, here is the review of the Netflix animated short.
The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist is the new Netflix animated special starring the gang of anthropomorphic animals that we met in the 2022 DreamWorks Animation film. After the Christmas-themed special, released last year, here comes another one, this time perfect for the scariest night of the year. Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Mrs. Tarantola are now famous for the incredible and detailed thefts that they carry out by brilliantly eluding the authorities.
In this new adventure, the group decides to risk a robbery in a house that is said to be haunted, where one of the most legendary criminals of all time lived. Mr. Wolf tries to convince his friends to organize the robbery, not without some uncertainty: are we sure that Reginald Mi Temon's majestic villa is completely safe? For the witty wolf, it is the opportunity of a lifetime because if they were to pull off the heist, they would demonstrate to the entire world that the Too Bads never take a break from anything.
The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist: a fun animated short for the whole family
The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist maintains the ironic and fun style of the previous short dedicated to Christmas, and at the same time serves as a prequel to the 2022 film Too Bad. The Netflix animated short is suitable for the whole family, young and old, and can also be watched independently of the two products. If the Christmas-themed special was, in some ways, more pleasant, this one dedicated to Halloween is decidedly darker and gives a few shivers.
Mr. Wolf, as the leader of the gang, proves to be the usual self-confident and fearless one: that's why he immediately takes up the challenge of going to rob a precious amulet that belonged to the legendary thief Reginald Mi Temon, without paying too much attention to the curse that looms. In fact, it is said that anyone who tries to get their hands on the precious jewel will be forever haunted by the spirit of the criminal. Obviously, Mr. Wolf is skeptical, and in fact, he will take advantage of the situation to scare Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Mrs. Tarantola. They, on the contrary, take these words literally, to the point that their own presumptuous leader will then have to change his mind: what if the legend were true?
As the original film had already done, The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist is aimed at the little ones and does not forget its moral of showing how even bad guys hide a good side. The world of the occult, between curses and ghosts, is brought to the stage without exaggerating. The lesson of the special is to be careful what you wish for without knowing the consequences, especially if it's something we don't know.
The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist: evaluation and conclusion
The Bad Guys – Haunted Heist is a DreamWorks animated short that continues the adventures of the group of (good) thieves formed by Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Mrs. Tarantola. Putting aside the Christmas style, made of sweets and good deeds, the new special, available on Netflix from October 3, 2024, takes on a slightly darker tone, suitable for the story it intends to tell.
There is humor, there are jokes, but also typical elements of horror films – without obviously exaggerating, it is still a product intended for the whole family and aimed especially at the little ones. Too Bad – A Halloween Too Bad reserves the classic lesson (or a sort of moral) for the end, concluding the story with another touch of thrill, but also fun. The writing certainly helps to avoid boredom: the special is full of catchy phrases that highlight the dynamics of this bizarre group of anthropomorphic criminals.
