The film has received an R-rating that hasn't been seen since 2006
Art is taking Europe by storm. In the UK, Terrifier 3 has provoked, let's say, indigestible reactions from audiences, with reports of people vomiting during the screening or walking out of the theater. Meanwhile, in France, the film has received a rare ban for audiences under 18.
It's the first time since Saw 3 in 2006 that the country's regulators have used this label in the R-rating. Thus, the film is not only recommended for adults but also banned for all minors. Terrifier 3's distributor in the country, Factoris Films, does not approve of the decision.
"We can only regret this unexpected final decision, which will severely hinder the release of the film, eagerly awaited by tens of thousands of French moviegoers and scheduled for October 9," they said in a statement (via World of Reel). The release date for the film was maintained.
In Terrifier 3, the bloodiest chapter in the gore horror franchise that has won over audiences in recent years, the killer clown Art begins to stalk even more people, even dressed as Santa Claus, since the film's story will be set during Christmas. The film will be released on October 11 in the US, two weeks before the previously announced date (October 25). In Brazil, the release is scheduled for October 31, Halloween.
Terrifier 2 is one of the box office success stories of 2022, with over US$10 million raised on a budget of just US$250,000. After several reports on social media that the film made audiences faint and feel sick during the screenings, everyone became curious to see the horror production.
Director Damien Leone promises that the third film will be the most terrifying of all. “One of my main goals for Terrifier 3 is to recapture the creepiness of the original Terrifier short. It had a genuinely creepy atmosphere that I’m still proud of. If all goes as planned, Part 3 will be the scariest Terrifier yet,” the director said on Twitter.
Directed by Damien Leone with Jenna Kanell, Samantha Scaffidi, and David Howard Thornton, the film follows three young people who are terrorized on Halloween night by a maniacal killer clown named Art. Terrifier and Terrifier 2 are available on Prime Video.
