The sequel to the movie Mortal Kombat (2021), Mortal Kombat 2, is likely to feature much more powerful action scenes than the previous film. Mehcad Brooks, who will reprise his role as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, told Collider. Mortal Kombat is a live-action film adaptation of the popular fighting game, known for its brutal finishing moves called "Fatalities." From Japan, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano, who are now the "SHOGUN" duo, participated as main cast members. They were captivated by the spectacular action that was just like the game.
Jax, played by Brooks, is a soldier who loses both arms in the film and gains machine arms. Regarding his appearance in the sequel, Brooks said, "Jax is in my DNA. I love him. I understand him. He's an amazing guy," talking about how he has become one with the character. Furthermore, he said that the sequel will "fully depict Jax's personality, humor, and beliefs," and revealed that the main thing to look forward to is "the really, really great fighting scenes. There are 27 fighting scenes in the movie." "We worked really hard to make it work."
According to Collider's count, there were 17 action scenes in the first movie, so it looks like there will be 10 more. The previous movie had a lot of fighting scenes scattered throughout its 110-minute running time, but the sequel seems to be more action-packed and more exciting to watch. Principal photography has already been completed, and preview screenings for related parties have been held. Simon McQuoid from the first movie will continue to direct. The screenplay was written by Jeremy Slater of the Marvel drama "Moon Knight" (2022). It is scheduled to be released in the US on October 24, 2025.
