The film debuted with over $11 million on its first day

The film The Wild Robot, based on the book series of the same name by Peter Brown, has enjoyed good initial success at the box office and among critics, leading director Chris Sanders and star Lupita Nyong’o to enthusiastically discuss the possibility of a sequel. Sanders, known for works such as How to Train Your Dragon, said the project was a very personal experience for him, while Nyong’o, who voices the robotic protagonist, Roz, expressed her desire to return to the character, noting that the book series on which the film is based consists of three novels.

The Wild Robot 2 is already exceeding the studio’s expectations

The film follows the adventures of Roz, a robot who finds himself shipwrecked on a deserted island and must adapt to life among the animals that inhabit the place. The Wild Robot has received strong critical acclaim, with a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, even breaking DreamWorks' previous record with Abominable. However, the decision to make a sequel will depend on the long-term financial results.

The film debuted with a gross of over $11 million on its first day, beating initial expectations, and is targeting an opening weekend of around $35 million, on a production budget of $78 million. Despite the strong start, The Wild Robot faces significant competition at the box office, including Tim Burton's Beetlejuice and the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux.
