When his wife dies, Aidan is forced to move in with his daughter Cecilia and has no choice but to take Rachel with him, introducing her to Cecilia as “a family friend” who needs a place to stay. Aidan gambles that after five years in captivity, Rachel is too submissive and scared to try to escape. But Rachel is a fighter who has never thought of giving up, and she realizes that Cecilia may be the lifeline she’s been waiting for all these years. Meanwhile, Emily, the owner of a local restaurant, falls for the handsome widower and finds herself drawn into Rachel and Cecilia’s orbit.
“When I read Clémence Michallon’s The Quiet Tenant, I couldn’t put it down. The descriptive nature of the story and her emotional storytelling sensibilities convinced me to adapt it for the screen. This is the story of a woman reclaiming her power despite the most shocking of circumstances.” Jason Blum of Blumhouse added: “I’ve been a huge fan of Anthony’s cinematic style and his approach to storytelling on TV since the early days of CSI. I knew the moment he pitched The Quiet Tenant that he was the right voice to bring Clémence Michallon’s moving novel to television, and we’re thrilled to produce this project alongside the talented team at Secret Menu, who have produced some of the best female-centric film and television projects to date,” said Anthony E. Zuiker in a statement.
