Farrell Set For The Batman Sequel

Colin Farrell has shared his thoughts on playing Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, in The Batman spin-off series The Penguin. In an interview with Total Film, Farrell expressed uncertainty about returning for a second season of the project, attributing his reservations to the physically and emotionally taxing experience of playing the character.

Farrell, who made his debut as The Penguin in 2022’s The Batman, described the transformation into Cobblepot as a challenging process. “I enjoyed playing the role, but it was extremely taxing,” he said. The Penguin actor explained that despite his appreciation for the historicity of the character, which includes iconic performances by Burgess Meredith and Danny DeVito, the practical challenges of the costume and makeup had a significant impact on him.

Farrell said he often expressed his desire to see the project come to an end while maintaining a deep sense of gratitude. “I was grateful and honored to be a part of this legacy,” he said, “but ultimately I was exhausted and I didn’t want to wear that costume and makeup anymore.”

Despite the on-set challenges, Farrell is set to star in the sequel to The Batman, which goes into production next year and is set to hit theaters in October 2026. Director Matt Reeves has confirmed that the Penguin character will play a role in the film, directly tying The Penguin series into the sequel’s narrative.
