The feature film Peaky Blinders began production in the UK in September.

Cillian Murphy has spoken about the challenges he faced after playing the lead role in Oppenheimer, an experience that required a lot of physical and mental effort. The visibly exhausted actor revealed that he took more than six months off before returning to set for the film Small Things Like These, which is due out on November 8. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Murphy described the post-Oppenheimer period as “a little stressful,” highlighting the intensity of preparing for and making Christopher Nolan’s film.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are producing the film with Cillian Murphy

The significant weight loss required for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of Cillian Murphy’s biggest challenges, but his return to normalcy has proven difficult. Although the role in Small Things Like These didn’t require another drastic weight loss, the actor did face new challenges, particularly some emotionally taxing scenes that tested his psyche.

Small Things Like These, set in 1985 in the small Irish town of New Ross and based on Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name, follows Bill Furlong, played by Cillian Murphy, a father who grapples with disturbing secrets surrounding a local convent. The story is inspired by the Magdalene Laundries, where troubled women were segregated. Murphy’s character finds himself battling the powerful institution while coming to terms with his own past.

Cillian Murphy not only stars in the film but also produces it, alongside Matt Damon. Damon, Ben Affleck, and Kevin Halloran serve as executive producers. The actor shared that he pitched the script to Damon while filming Oppenheimer, suggesting that the film could share similar themes to Manchester by the Sea, which Damon also produced.
