After a romantic betrayal, the young and successful lawyer Leyla Taylan ventures into the complicated world of modern dating in Thank You, Next?, a Turkish Netflix series created by Ece Yörenç. Even though she has the unconditional support of her best friends, dealing with new relationships won't be easy. The rom-com TV series directed by Bertan Başaran examines relationships in the modern world and presents different perspectives on love and friendship relationships, similar to the ever-growing number of Turkish projects that the platform welcomes.

Thank you, Next is aimed at lovers of the romantic and comedy-drama genres, as well as fans of Turkish series. Undoubtedly, its plot does not deviate from the formulas of productions of this genre, offering a mix of romance, drama, and comedy and exploring the dynamics of human relationships through the filter of a tumultuous divorce, as we analyze in our review of Thank you, Next.

Thank You, Next: between the complexities of love and the law

Successful lawyer Leyla Taylan throws herself back into the world of dating years later to escape the pain of her first love, which ended in betrayal. With the help of her friends and the charming chef Şeyyaz, she overcomes the pain of separation and becomes the representative of the famous third wife Tuba Tepelioğlu in a case considered "the divorce case of the year". She thus finds herself having to face Cem Murathan, a collector and serial lover who has married and divorced three women in 15 years. Leyla will passionately defend her client from this “narcissistic” man who is “guilty and powerful.” However, as Leyla strenuously defends her famous client, Tuba Tepelioglu, the lines between profession and private life blur. Can Leyla navigate the complexities of love and the law without letting emotions cloud her judgment?

A convincing protagonist to root for

Basaran's distinctive skill lies in his ability to mix humor and emotion fluidly, creating a narrative plot that is also a vivid picture of the challenges of life as a modern couple, alternating moments of carefree joy with deeper reflections. With her expressive eyes and captivating smile, Sarikaya convincingly embodies Leyla's journey of self-discovery. Whether dealing with an awkward first date or opening up to unexpected connections, Sarikaya's performance makes the character's arc understandable and engaging, both through her hilarious dating misadventures and by dissecting Leyla's emotional depth, we cheer for every step of the way.

Through the eyes of Leyla Taylan, Thank You, Next transports us into the glamorous and overwhelming vortex of the Istanbul bourgeoisie. Between the advice of her friends and her romantic dilemmas, Leyla often finds herself torn between her past with Ömer, her new romantic experiences with the seductive Feyyaz – a chef who promises to enchant – and her encounters with Cem, which range from the professional to the personal. Each character contributes to enriching the plot with their own personality, from solid friendships to passionate confrontations.

Humor and emotion are the keywords of Thank you, Next

Under the direction of Bertan Basaran, Thank You, Next, although not strikingly different from other products of the genre, manages to balance humor and emotion, alternating moments of lightness with deep reflections, allowing the audience to establish a genuine connection with the history. Despite being classified as a romantic comedy, the series is not afraid to also take on a more serious and thoughtful tone. In this sense, it is a winning choice to have opted for narrative jumps between different timelines, to fully explore Leyla's relationships, highlighting not only her often questionable choices, but also the complexity of human bonds. So, if you are looking for a series without too many pretensions, but which convinces you with its degree of emotional introspection and, sometimes, with unexpected surprises, Thank you, Next is for you.

Thank you, Next offers what it promises, that is, a well-balanced mix of over-the-top emotionality, bad choices of characters that are not difficult to become attached to, and all the clichés of the Turkish series that have fascinated thousands of viewers.
