Young Woman and the Sea: the trailer for the film starring Daisy Ridley and based on a true story

Disney has released the official trailer for Young Woman and the Sea, a film directed by Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, Maleficent – Mistress of Evil) and starring Daisy Ridley, the interpreter of Rey Skywalker in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars. Based on the 2022 book Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World by Glenn Stout, the film will be released in US theaters on May 31.

The film follows the true story of Gertrude 'Trudy' Ederle, the first woman to cross the English Channel. In her life, the woman won an Olympic medal trying to overcome her limits, swimming in the most famous canals in the world. According to the official synopsis of the film, “Thanks to the constant support of her older sister and the support of her coaches, she overcame the adversity and animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the incredible achievement: a 21-mile journey from France to England."

Young Woman and the Sea also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Margaret “Meg” Ederle), Stephen Graham (Bill), Kim Bodnia (Henry Ederle), Christopher Eccleston (Jabez Wolffe), Glenn Fleshler (James), Jeanette Hain ( Gertrude Anna Ederle) and Sian Clifford (Charlotte). The film was written by Jeff Nathanson and was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson. The editing was done by Úna Ní Dhonghaíle, while the music was signed by Amelia Warner.
