Netflix believed it had found the new Star Wars.

It certainly cannot be said that Rebel Moon was a great success. Its audience figures are quite far from those of other Netflix hits and it lasted only three weeks in the platform's weekly Top 10. The premiere of the second part brought the saga back to the most viewed list, but it was a miserable joy given the data it recorded.

Rebel Moon 2 is worse than the first film. Zack Snyder's sci-fi saga is a huge disappointment for Netflix

To be fair, Rebel Moon 2 was the most-watched movie on Netflix in the week of April 15-21, and it premiered on the 19th. Specifically, the sci-fi film added 44.2 million hours watched, per an estimated total of 21.4 million views. Figures even lower than those of the first episode – 54.1 million hours for an estimated 23.9 million views. If the budget were lower, depending on the case, these figures would also be fine, but this is not the case.

This casts many doubts on the future of the franchise. According to Snyder, the saga could have six episodes – the end of the second clearly indicates that the idea is to continue – but Netflix has not yet commented on its future. If we add to this that it was found that the promotional campaign for Rebel Moon 2 was decidedly more lukewarm, everything indicates that the platform does not have much confidence.

It's true that Snyder and Netflix still have Director's Cuts of both films planned, usually much more popular versions than the originals. It should also be remembered that the director has an agreement with Netflix and that he is currently also working to expand the other franchise created with the streaming platform, the post-apocalyptic horror Army of the Dead.
