After a series of bad adaptations, Netflix's One Piece series has finally broken the curse of anime remakes. The platform has perfectly hit the target when it comes to giving "life" to Eiichiro Oda's manga, even managing to dominate the streaming top for several weeks, in more than 90 countries.

Slow, but inevitable: One Piece continues its advance on Netflix

Despite being one of the most expensive series on the platform, the renewal of the second season was not long in coming. The premiere of One Piece took place right in the middle of the actors' and screenwriters' strike, so the production of the new chapters had to be delayed.

Considering that the first season has been in post-production for almost a year, we should expect to see the second season of One Piece around the spring or summer of 2025. At the time of its release, the series' producers were aiming to return within 18 months, so let's stick to this data for now.

According to Deadline, One Piece is entering this new phase of production with a new deal. Joe Tracz, an executive producer of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson & the Olympians, joins the Going Merry crew as a writer, executive producer, and new co-showrunner alongside Steve Maeda and Matt Owens. Previously, Tracz also co-wrote A Series of Unfortunate Events and Dash and Lily for Netflix.

One Piece adapts Eiichiro Oda's manga about Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who sets off on an adventure to find the greatest treasure of all time and to become the king of pirates. The Netflix series features Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
