Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman has shared a brand new update regarding the current status of season 3 of Good Omens, the acclaimed Prime Video adaptation. This is the first big news regarding the production of the new season of the fantasy series since its announcement four months ago.
While discussing the fallout from last year's Hollywood strikes, Gaiman talked about three upcoming shows based on his literary works, including the third season of Good Omens. Speaking to Deadline, Gaiman confirmed that fans will have to wait a little longer for the final season as they currently plan to begin filming in early 2025. “You know, Dead Boy Detectives comes out in 10 days. I've seen half of the second season of Sandman and it's amazing. I'm writing the third season of Good Omens and we'll start shooting it in January,” revealed the author.
Good Omens is based on the acclaimed 1990 novel by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett entitled Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (in Italy published as Buona Apocalypse a tutti!). The series follows the story of two unlikely best friends (and more), the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant), who have lived on Earth since the beginning of time. To preserve the life they enjoyed on Earth, they banded together to prevent the biblical apocalypse from occurring. The series also stars Jon Hamm, Doon Mackichan, Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, Quelin Sepulveda, Miranda Richardson, Shelley Conn, and many more.
According to Neil Gaiman, the final chapter will be based on the sequel originally planned by him and Pratchett, which will continue to follow Aziraphale and Crowley's efforts to prevent the end of the world. “I'm so happy to finally be able to finish the story that Terry and I had plotted in 1989 and 2006. Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could see the story through to the end,” he said. “The first season was about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the end of the world. Season two was sweet and kind, though it may have ended less joyfully than a certain angel and demon might have hoped. Now, in season three, we'll have them face the end of the world once again. Plans for Armageddon are going awry. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to make things right."
